Cubeb Essential Oil

Known Uses

Cubeb Essential Oil has been used medicinally for thousands of years.  It has calming properties and can be helpful in treating stress and hypertension. It can reduce fever, acts as a diuretic, antiseptic, expectorant, antioxidant, antimicrobial, disinfectant, can prevent damage to the liver, relieve pain, protect the gastro-intestinal tract and act as a stimulant. Its antiseptic properties are beneficial in treating gonorrhea, leucorrhea and urinary tract infections. It also can relieve muscle aches, rheumatism, and stress. It cleanses the sinuses of phlegm and strengthens the brain through inhalation.

Cubeb Essential Oil is recommended for treating tastelessness, halitosis, cough, loss of voice and dental problems. Inhaling Cubeb Oil is beneficial in treating asthma, hay fever, and bronchitis. As a diuretic, it helps in discharging toxic substances from the body. Tibetans also used Cubeb for treating problems with the spleen.

Cubeb Oil is known to treat chronic laryngitis. It allows wounds to heal faster and is used in the treatment of hypertension in the Far East. It is added to foods to stimulate the appetite, improve digestion, reduce flatulence, and prevent dysentery.

Cubeb, the tailed-pepper, is exceptional for treating impotence in both men and women having significant aphrodisiac properties. It stimulates the parathyroid and is therefore useful in menopausal formulas to help with osteoporosis and in the treatment of menstrual problems.

In the Far East, it has been used to darken hair and acts as a natural perfume for the body. It is also used in the preparation of soaps and perfumes. Since the early nineteenth century, Cubeb Oil has been used in the preparation of various drugs.

History

This plant is native to Indonesia and Malaysia. It is also grown in India and China. It was brought to Europe through trade. The use of Cubeb goes back as far as the early 4th Century BC. It was probably traded between Greece and Java. “One Thousand and One Nights”, written in the 9th Century, mentions the use of Cubeb to treat infertility.

Warning

For some individuals, Cubeb Essential Oil can bother the stomach and intestines. It is not recommended for those who take antacids or medication that decreases stomach acid. Cubeb Oil can sometimes irritate the skin when mixed with other essential oils. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid Cubeb Oil. Those suffering from kidney disease should not use it.

Always use a carrier oil with Cubeb and test a small area of the skin for allergic reaction before applying to larger areas. Do not ingest Cubeb Essential Oil. Keep away from eyes and from children.

Known Uses

The main benefit of Cranberry Seed Essential Oil is that it has the ability to absorb well. It contains a variety of nutrients and compounds that benefit the skin, hair and scalp in its ability to moisturize. It can be and is often used as a carrier oil for other essential oils.

As a treatment for the hair, apply a blend of Cranberry Seed Essential Oil with a few drops of Lavender and Rosemary to damp hair and leave on overnight. Rinse out in the morning.

It is exceptionally helpful for oily skin since it will not block pores. It has the ability to increase the turnover of skin cells, so it can also be effective for dry, scaly skin. Additionally, it helps to reduce the appearance of scarring.

When used as a carrier for other essential oils, Cranberry Seed Oil will enhance the elasticity of skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and prevent skin damage from sun exposure. Cranberry Seed Essential Oil can also be used to repair irritated, cracked skin that is itchy, dry, and scaly. It has successfully been used to soothe Eczema and psoriasis as well.

With one of the highest antioxidant contents, Cranberry Seed Essential Oil has the ability to remove free radicals from the body. It is high in Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and essential fatty acids as well. It is a light, cold-pressed oil that absorbs very quickly into the skin, but is also very gentle so that it can be used on the most sensitive skin, even on babies.

History

Native Americans have long used cranberries as a food, fabric dye, and medicinally as well. American whalers and mariners also used it on their voyages to prevent scurvy.

Warning

There are no known contraindications for Cranberry Seed Essential Oil, but one should always do a patch test on the skin before applying it to large or more sensitive areas of the body.

Known Uses

Costus Root Essential Oil is known for its antiseptic, antiviral, anti-bacterial and antispasmodic properties. Inhaling the oil reduces pain and anxiety, having a calming and mildly sedative effect.

It reduces inflammation and is therefore useful in treating asthma, bronchitis, chronic coughs, arthritis and gout. Adding a couple drops of this oil in a warm tea can improve digestive function.

On the skin, Costus Root Essential Oil counteracts free radicals that are the cause of fine lines, loose skin and age spots. It can be used to treat eczema, psoriasis and dandruff. 

Costus Root Oil will kill bacteria and infections in open wounds such as scrapes, cuts, scratches, or bug bites. It also speeds up the healing process

History

Costus has been traded since ancient times from India. It was known as an important medicinal herb with a long history of use to treat a variety of conditions. It has also been used as an aphrodisiac in several Asian cultures.

Warning

People who are allergic to Asteraceae or Compositae plant family such as ragweed, marigolds, chrysanthemums, daisies, etc. should avoid Costus Root Essential Oil. A test patch should be performed on the skin to test for allergic reaction.
