It is also known as Putchock, Kushta, Yun Mu Xiang, Qing Mu Xiang, Radix Aucklandiae, Radix Saussureae Lappae, Koshet, Kuth, Koot, Kut Aucklandia Root and Guag Mu Xing. 

Blends well with: Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vetiver, Violet, and Rose Essential Oils.

Known Uses

Costus Root Essential Oil is known for its antiseptic, antiviral, anti-bacterial and antispasmodic properties. Inhaling the oil reduces pain and anxiety, having a calming and mildly sedative effect.

It reduces inflammation and is therefore useful in treating asthma, bronchitis, chronic coughs, arthritis and gout. Adding a couple drops of this oil in a warm tea can improve digestive function.

On the skin, Costus Root Essential Oil counteracts free radicals that are the cause of fine lines, loose skin and age spots. It can be used to treat eczema, psoriasis and dandruff. 

Costus Root Oil will kill bacteria and infections in open wounds such as scrapes, cuts, scratches, or bug bites. It also speeds up the healing process

History

Costus has been traded since ancient times from India. It was known as an important medicinal herb with a long history of use to treat a variety of conditions. It has also been used as an aphrodisiac in several Asian cultures.

Warning

People who are allergic to Asteraceae or Compositae plant family such as ragweed, marigolds, chrysanthemums, daisies, etc. should avoid Costus Root Essential Oil. A test patch should be performed on the skin to test for allergic reaction.

For external use, use a carrier oil. Always check with medical advisor before using while pregnant or lactating.
