Buchu Essential Oil

Also known as Mountain Buchu, Bookoo, Buku and Bucco.

The Essential Oil of Buchu blends well with the essential oils of Cedarwood, Frankincense, Ginger, Jasmine Lavender, Lemon, Neroli, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Rosewood, Sandalwood, and Ylang-ylang.

Known Uses

Buchu Essential Oil can be used to repel insects and parasites such as flies, mosquitoes, fleas, lice, and bedbugs. It also acts as an antiseptic with urinary tract infections, digestive problems, gout, rheumatism, coughs, colds and infections in the colon, prostate, and kidneys. The Essential Oil of Buchu treats indigestion that is caused by microbial or bacterial action. It also stimulates the secretion of digestive juices into the stomach.

Its diuretic properties aid in removing toxins like uric acid, excess salts, water, and fats by increasing urination, thereby giving relief from such ailments as rheumatism and arthritis. Additionally, it relieves flatulence and all the symptoms associated with it. In vinegar-based lotion, Buchu oil can be used for bruises and sprains.

This essential oil can also be used to treat cystitis, excess cellulite, and bladder ailments. There have been reports of Buchu Essential Oil being capable of blocking ultraviolet rays of the sun.

History

Native to South Africa, Buchu is an aromatic shrub.
