Neem Essential Oil

Neem Essential Oil

Azadirachta indica is native to India.

Not for internal use. For cosmetic use and use as an insecticide. Apply directly to skin. Dilute to reduce its strong odor and potency.

Known Uses

Neem essential oil is used in soaps, creams, toothpaste, hair care products, skin care products and in gardens and on the skin for natural pest control. Containing vitamin E and comprised of 70% fatty acids, neem is therefore very moisturizing. It can be directly applied to the skin or mixed into creams and other skin care preparations. It is used to deter insects, including mosquitos, flies, fleas, ticks, mites, and lice. Combine neem with water and spray on plants as a powerful natural insecticide.

Neem oil is semi-solid in its natural state and will solidify at room temperature. Liquify it in a pot of hot water, in the microwave or in direct sunlight.

History

Long considered a cure-all in India, Neem oil has been used there for thousands of years. It is referred to in ancient Indian texts. It the past neem trees were treasured by Indians and referred to as "the village pharmacy" or the "noble tree". Traditionally neem oil and parts of the neem tree were used for skin irritations, acne, lepricy, fevers, and inflammation. It is still used medicinally in India and around the world in soaps, lotions, creams, and other cosmetic products.

Warning

Do not use internally. Do not use if pregnant or nursing. Not for use on children or the elderly. Can be toxic in large doses. Talk with a doctor before using neem oil if you are currently taking any medications.
